Bentley Receives 10th Straight Bid to NCAA East/Atlantic Golf Regional

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the tenth straight time, the field for the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Men's Golf Regional will include the Bentley University Falcons. Coach Mickey Herron's team made nine straight appearances from 2010-19 before last year's was cancelled by the pandemic.

The East and Atlantic regional championships will be held jointly at the Lake View Country Club in North East, Pa. May 6-8. The top four teams from each super regional and the top individual not with a qualifying team will advance to the finals May 17-21 at PGA National Resort, the Champion Course, in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Bentley was one of six at-large selections and was the number two seed from the East Region following a season that included first-place finishes in a dual with Assumption, a triangular with Assumption and Le Moyne, and the eight-team Bentley Invitational. The Falcons also finished fifth in the Northeast-10 Championships.

The automatic qualifiers in the East Region were Le Moyne College, as the Northeast-10 Conference champion, and Dominican College (N.Y.), from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

The other at-large selections from the East were Assumption University, Concordia Coillege (N.Y.), Franklin Pierce University, St. Thomas Aquinas College and Southern New Hampshire University.

Five of the teams are from the Northeast-10 Conference, two are from the CACC and number one seed St. Thomas Aquinas will represent the East Coast Conference.

The eight teams out of the Atlantic Region include automatic qualifiers Indiana University (Pa.) (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) and Davis & Elkin College (Great Midwest Athletic Conference), along with top-seeded Gannon University.

Two Bentley players, senior Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) and graduate student Ellis Yoder (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead HS), remain from the 2019 that finished second in the region to qualify for the nationals for the first time in program history.

Ethier, the 2019-20 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, is in the midst of an outstanding season with a 73.3 stroke average and a victory in the Bentley Invitational. Yoder, a 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-America, and junior Matt Mackin (Westwood/Westwood HS) follow, each with 76.45 averages.

The NCAA berth is Bentley's 15th in the last 19 years.
