Oliver 1st NEIGA Repeat Champion since 1983; Bentley Finishes 2nd in Division II

BREWSTER, Mass. – Bentley University senior co-captain Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/ Lincoln Academy) had a memorable day Monday as he became the first New England Intercollegiate Golf Association repeat champion since former Bryant University great Jim Hallet won five straight New England titles from 1981-83.

Oliver shot a sizzling five-under 67 at the Captains Course to finish the two-day, 184-player event with a two-under 142. That was four strokes better than overall runner-up Kevin Duncan (Fairfield) and gave him a winning margin of six in the Division II results.

Oliver, who last year became Bentley's first-ever New England champion, became the first Falcon to turn in a five-under score since Bob Rainville did so in the 1997 ECAC Division II Championships. For the tournament, he had 20 pars and nine birdies with averages of 2.89 on the par threes, an even 4.0 on the par fours and 4.89 on the par fives. The tournament championship was his third of the fall season and school record fifth career.

Oliver was named a co-recipient of the 2015 Guy Tedesco Award, along with Southern New Hampshire's Jake Nutter. This award is given annually to the outstanding New England golfer who displayed the qualities Tedesco was noted for: unselfish leadership, outstanding talent, love of golf and willingness to promote positive aspects of golf to others.

With its co-captain leading the way, Bentley finished second of nine in the Division II standings and third overall in a field of 38. The Falcons followed up on their first-round 309 with a 304 to finish at 613, four strokes back of Southern New Hampshire. SNHU had the next three Division II finishers after Oliver, including runner-up Gavin Dugas (77-71-148) and Nutter (75-76-151).

Bentley's next two finishers were sophomore Cal Meyers (Richfield, Wisc./Slinger HS) and senior co-captain Tom Ayres (Bolton/Nashoba Reg. HS). Both tied for 11th in Division II with Meyers recording a 75-82-157 and Ayres an 80-77-157.

Sophomore Brett Chatfield (Attleboro/Bishop Feehan HS) tied for 19th (83-78-161) and freshman Doug Kulikowski (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon HS) tied for 28th (79-85-164).

The New Englands was the final action of the fall season for Coach Mickey Herron's team.
