Bentley Finishes Day 1 of Mike Bello Spring Invitational in 5th Place

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. – After finishing in the top two of its first three tournaments this spring, the Bentley University golf team will have some work to do on Monday if it is to continue that streak as the Falcons finished day one of the Mike Bello Invitational at the Timber Banks Golf Club in fifth place.

Bentley turned in a 318 on Sunday, 14 strokes back of day one leader St. Thomas Aquinas College, the top ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region. Le Moyne College, the host team and number three team in the East rankings, is in second, one stroke back of STAC, and both Southern New Hampshire (315) and Roberts Wesleyan College (317) are also in front of the Falcons, the number four team in the latest rankings.

Bentley was led on Sunday by freshman Brett Chatfield (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS), who turned in a two-over 74. He's tied for third place in a field of 64, two back of co-leaders Jake Nutter (Southern New Hampshire) and John Clare (Le Moyne). Chatfield's 18 included four birdies, tying for the tournament lead in that category.

The number two scorers for the Falcons Sunday were juniors Tommy Ayres (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) and Matt Freitag (Cheshire, Mass./Hoosac Valley HS). Both will begin the second 18 tied for 18th following an 81.
