Ayres, Oliver Help Bentley Place 4th in Saint Rose Shootout

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – Led by sophomore Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) and Tommy Ayres (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS), the Bentley University golf team used a strong second day to place fourth in the ten-team Saint Rose Shootout at the Pinehaven Country Club Saturday.

Bentley posted Saturday's second-best team score, a 303, and that helped the Falcons move up one place with a tournament score of 621. Le Moyne College easily claimed the team championship, with a 597, and Dowling College and Franklin Pierce University tied for second, three strokes in front of the Falcons.

Ayres and Oliver tied for tenth place with 36-hole scores of 154. Oliver carded a second-round 74, tying for the day's second-best, and Ayres had a 76, improving on his opening round by two strokes.

Next on the list for Bentley was senior captain Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS), who tied for 21st with an 83-75-158.

John Clare of Le Moyne earned medalist honors after besting teammate Aidan Fuller on a sudden-death playoff after both finished with a four-over 144.

Bentley will wrap up its fall season with the New Englands Oct. 27-28.
