Stoddard & Bentley Lead NE-10 Golf after Day 1

KEENE, N.H. – Following the first 18 holes of the Northeast-10 Conference Golf Championships at the Bretwood Golf Course, Bentley University junior Jon Stoddard (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury HS) sits atop the leaderboard with a three-stroke lead.

Stoddard fired a two-under-par 70, a collegiate career-best by three strokes, Sunday. That put him three up on Frank Amizicia of Adelphi University and four in front of a quartet of golfers who are currently tied for third.

As a result of Stoddard's excellence, Bentley will begin Monday's final round in first place in the team standings, with its 301 score putting the Falcons four up on defending champion Adelphi. Coach Mickey Herron's Falcons will be looking for their second NE-10 championship in three years and fifth overall when play resumes. Adelphi was previously announced as the team leader, but a scoring change reversed the order of the top two teams.

A total of nine strokes separate the top four teams, with Southern New Hampshire (307) and American International College (308) in third and fourth, respectively.

The other Bentley player currently in the top ten is senior captain Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS), who is in a three-way tie for sixth following a 75. Bentley also counted 78's from senior Ryan Hudson (Purchase, N.Y./Iona Prep) and sophomore Malcolm Oliver (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy).

The team champion will automatically qualify for next May's NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional.
