Michel Adds Ping Division II All-East Region to List of Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University rising senior Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers HS) has been named to the 12-player 2012 Division II PING All-East Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Michel, previously selected as a Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America (men's at-large third team), led the Falcons with a career-best 75.5 stroke average. That was an improvement of 3.6 strokes over his sophomore year performance.

During the fall position of the schedule, Michel collected both All-Northeast-10 and Division II All-New England recognition with his performance in those championships. This past spring, he turned in a career-best three-under 67 during the River Hawk Invitational at Meadow Creek Golf Club. That was one of 18 times in 20 rounds during the year that he shot in the 70s or better.

Michel is a standout in the classroom as well and is a candidate for a second straight appearance on the Academic All-Northeast-10 team.

The All-Region team also included Anthony Corsi (Dowling), Kevin Daniels (American International), Sylvain Debiais (UMass-Lowell), Ross Earnshaw (Post), Mike Gunderson (St. Thomas Aquinas), Matt Horton (Saint Rose), Louis Kelly (Adelphi),Thomas Linehan (St. Thomas Aquinas), Daniel Orr (Wilmington), Thomas Rees (Post) and Paul Tighe (Wilmington).

Bentley captured the Northeast-10 Conference Championship and the New Englands, and automatically qualified for the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional.
