Capital One Academic All-District Honors for Michel & McQueen

WALTHAM, Mass. – Juniors Matt Michel (Danvers/Danvers HS) and Dan McQueen (Topsfield/Masconomet Reg. HS), a duo who helped the Bentley University golf team make a return trip to the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional, excel in the classroom as well as on the course.

As a testament to that, both were among ten student-athletes selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Men's At-Large Academic All-District 1 team. District 1 is comprised of the Northeast-10 Conference, the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

The ten will be eligible for selection to the Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-America® team, which will be announced later this month. The men's at-large program includes all NCAA championship sports that do not have a separate Academic All-America team selected, including hockey, lacrosse, tennis and swimming, as well as golf.

Michel led the Falcons in stroke average, with his 75.5 the lowest by a Bentley golfer since Bob Leopold's 74.8 four years ago and an improvement of 3.6 strokes from his sophomore year. He tied for sixth in the New Englands last October, earned medalist honors in the UMass-Lowell River Hawk Invitational and was the runner-up in a pair of tournaments last fall, the season-opening Saint Rose Fall Shootout and the Northeast Intercollegiate.

McQueen had an outstanding spring portion of the schedule, averaging 76.1 to lower his season norm to 77.0, third best on the club. He was the Falcons' top finisher in three of six tournaments during the spring. Like Michel, McQueen improved significantly this year after playing in only four matches last spring after transferring from Fairfield.

Both players own impressive 3.85 grade point averages with McQueen majoring in finance and Michel having a double major, corporate finance and accounting and liberal studies.

Bentley captured the Northeast-10 and the New England championships during the fall and finished its season earlier this month by tying for 13th in the NCAA Super Regional.
