Rain Interrupts Day 2 of NCAA East/Atlantic Super Regional; Powers & Clarke Lead Falcons

HERSHEY, Pa. – A three-hour weather-related suspension of play and darkness prevented 12 of the 20 teams, including Bentley University, from completing their second round, in the 2012 NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional Tuesday at the Hershey Country Club East Course.

Bentley, which had just gotten started when play was suspended at 1:26 pm (the first Falcon golfer teed off at 12:50 pm), got in only nine holes before play was halted for the day. It was a solid front nine for coach Mickey Herron's team, at a plus-12.

Senior captains Richie Powers (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) and Nick Clarke (Plymouth, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) led the way with both two-over through nine. Grant Alter (Rancho Sante Fe, Calif./La Jolla Country Day), also a senior captain, was right with them at three-over. Powers birdied two of the first nine, and both Clarke and Alter had one.

In the team standings, Bentley currently stands in sixth place at +51 for the tournament, with the top 11 clubs all in various stages of their second round.  Wilmington College (Del.) and Indiana University (Pa.) top the standings at +39 and +40, respectively. Players from those teams have between three and six holes left.

Powers leads Bentley in the team standings as he is currently tied for 14th at +11. Right behind him, in a tie for 19th, is sophomore Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) at +12.

Davis and Elkins, at +63 for the tournament, has the best score amongst the teams who finished on Tuesday, and Fayetteville State's Jacob Barge is the low individual (77-75-151, +9) among those who completed their second round.

The second round will resume at 7:30 am Tuesday, and the third and final round will now be a shotgun start beginning at 11 am. The top five teams and the top two individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships later this month.
