Clarke, Powers Lead Bentley to a Tie for 3rd in AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational

LUDLOW, Mass. – Senior captains Nick Clarke (Plymouth/Cape Cod Academy) and Richie Powers (Leominster/Leominster HS) each finished in the top five as Bentley University tied for third place in the six-team American International College Yellow Jacket Classic, which concluded Tuesday at the Ludlow Country Club.

Bentley, with a score of 611 (306-305), finished nine back of the host team and four behind number two UMass-Lowell. The field also included Pace (611), Franklin Pierce (637) and Le Moyne (666).

Clarke, the tournament leader after Monday's round, followed up with his two-under 70 with a four-over 76. His 146 total put him in third place, two back of medalist Cole Childs of UMass-Lowell (72-72) and one behind runner-up Kevin Daniels of AIC (75-70).

Powers had his best round of the season Tuesday with his 71 giving him a 36-hole count of 149, good for fifth place.

Next on the list for Bentley were sophomore Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster/Nashoba Reg. HS) and junior Francesco Possio (Torino, Italy). They both tied for 14th at 158 with each turning in back-to-back 79s.

Bentley's final tournament before next month's NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Super Regional will be this weekend, the Paramountain Invitational in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
