McQueen Leads Bentley to 4th Place Finish in Peter King Memorial

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Continuing his outstanding play this spring, Bentley University junior Dan McQueen (Topsfield. Mass./Masconomet Reg. HS) shot a two-over 74 Sunday to finish in a tie for seventh place in the Peter King Memorial Invitational at the Long Island National Golf Club. McQueen had a first round 76 and finished the two-day event at 150, four strokes off the pace.

McQueen's strong performance helped Bentley place fourth amongst 18 teams in the tournament with a score of 617. Day one leader UMass-Lowell held on to edge Daeman College, 602-604, and American International College was third, four strokes in front of the Falcons.

McQueen, in four rounds this spring, has amassed a 74.0 stroke average, bettering his fall norm by 4.3 strokes per round.

Senior Richie Powers (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) was Bentley's number two finisher, posting a second-round 75 to tie for 14th at 153. Junior Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) tied for 28th with a 78-79-157, and Powers' second round 75 was matched by senior Nick Clarke (Plymouth, Mass./Cape Cod Academy).

Medalist honors went to Tommy Linehan of St. Thomas Aquinas with a 146, one better than Matt Horton of Saint Rose, Cole Childs of UMass-Lowell and Tommy Romano of Daeman.

Bentley's spring season will resume with the UMass-Lowell River Hawk Invitational Apr. 14-15.
