RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – The weather conditions were horrific, but the Bentley University golf team overcame that and finished day one of the Peter King Memorial Invitational Saturday at the Long Island National Golf Club in third place. A total of 18 teams are competing in the two-day tournament.

Bentley, with a team score of 314, will enter Sunday trailing only UMass-Lowell, which had a sensational 298, and Daeman College (310). American International College (315) and St. Thomas Aquinas (316) round out the top five.

Bentley's top individual was junior Dan McQueen (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Reg. HS), with his 76 putting him in a tie for ninth place. Also breaking 80 for the Falcons were senior Richie Powers (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) and junior Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS), who both shooting an opening-round 78.

Tommy Lineman of St. Thomas Aquinas is the individual leader at the midway point, his sparkling 70 giving him a three-stroke lead over Matt Horton of Saint Anselm and two UMass-Lowell golfers, Andrew Fecteau and Sylvain Debiais.
