BERLIN, Conn. – Bentley University junior Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) shot a two-over-par 74 Monday at Timberlin Country Club to conclude the two-day Northeast-10 Intercollegiate Golf Tournament in second place, just a stroke off the winning pace.

Michel, who had carded an opening round 72, finished the tournament with a 146. He was just edged out for medalist honors by Paul Tighe of Wilmington College (Del.), who shot a second-round 77 after opening with a 68. Dan Moulter of Le Moyne College followed in third at 149 (73-76).

Michel's efforts helped Bentley place sixth in a field of 15, with the Falcons turning in a second-round 311, an improvement of seven strokes over the team's performance on Sunday.  Bentley's 629 two-day score put the Falcons 32 back of team champion Wilmington College (293-304-597).

In between Wilmington and Bentley were host and runner-up Post University (295-310-605), Goldey-Beacom College (310-305-615), Dowling College (311-313-624) and American International (318-306-624).

Two other Falcons finished in the top half of the 75-player field, senior captains Grant Alter (Rancho Sante Fe, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) and Richie Powers (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS). Alter tied for 32nd at 79-81-160 and Powers turned in a second-round 77 to tie for 35th at 161.

This weekend, Bentley will play in the Dowling Invitational at the Long Island National Golf Club.
