Michel Shoots Even Par to Lead Bentley During Day 1 of Northeast Intercollegiates

BERLIN, Conn. – Bentley University junior Matt Michel (Danvers, Mass./Danvers HS) continued his strong start to the fall season by shooting an even-par 72 Sunday during the first day of play at the Northeast Intercollegiate Championships at the Timberlin Country Club. He'll begin Monday's second and final round tied for second place in a field of 75.

Due largely to Michel's performance, Bentley completed the first day tied with two other Northeast-10 Conference members, American International College and Le Moyne College, for fifth place with a score of 318. Wilmington College (Del.) and the host institution, Post University, are in a battle for first with Wilmington holding a two-stroke advantage, 293-295. Goldey-Beacom College and Dowling College are the other teams in front of the Falcons, with scores of 310 and 311, respectively. A total of 15 teams are participating.

Michel was one under over the front nine and one over for the back nine. The runner-up in last week's Saint Rose Shootout, he has averaged 72.7 for his first three rounds this fall.

Bentley's number two man Sunday was senior Grant Alter (Rancho Sante Fe, Calif./La Jolla Country Day). He shot a 79 and is currently tied for 22nd.

Wilmington's Paul Tighe is the leader in the clubhouse after shooting a sizzling four-under 68. Joe Massicotte is tied with Michel for second, and two other golfers are a stroke back in fourth.
