Bio

Kevin Bettencourt, a 2006 graduate of Bucknell University and a former assistant coach at Salem State University, came to Bentley University as an assistant men’s basketball coach in 2008. The 2013-14 season will be his sixth on the Falcon coaching staff.

Bentley has amassed a 102-49 record during his first five seasons with three NCAA bids, two Northeast-10 regular season championships and a trip to the Elite Eight and the national semifinals in 2010.

While at Bucknell, Bettencourt was the 2003 Patriot League Rookie of the Year and a three-time second-team All-Patriot League selection. He was a two-year team captain and was chosen as the NCAA Chevrolet Player of the Game in NCAA tournament wins over both Kansas in 2005 and Arkansas the following year.

Bettencourt finished his career fourth in Bucknell history in scoring, with 1,577 points, and his 294 career three pointers stood as the school record until the 2012-13 season, and still ranks second in program annals.

Bettencourt, who worked Bentley’s summer camp annually for six years before joining Lawson's staff, began his coaching career at his alma mater, Peabody High, during the 2006-07 season, serving as an assistant coach. From 2006-08, he was also a teacher at Peabody, where he is the program’s all-time leading scorer. Bettencourt moved into college coaching in 2007, helping Salem State to a 21-7 record and an NCAA tournament berth.

"As anticipated, Kevin has quickly grown into a coach we rely heavily on," praised Lawson. "A Division II full-time assistant carries a large load of responsibility and Kevin has proven to be invaluable in this role. He’s directly involved with every aspect of our program which has given him a chance to grow a lot in a short period of time. His instincts with both the game and teaching should translate into further growth and a bright future in coaching. We’re very fortunate to have him as part of our staff."

Bettencourt resides in his hometown of Peabody with his wife, Meghan, and their son, Nick (10).
