Men's Basketball: Laput Named NCAA D2CCA East Region Player of the Year

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) has been selected as the NCAA East Region Men's Basketball Player of the Year by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association. He also headlined the five-man D2CCA All-East Region team.

Laput, who has led Bentley to a 21-6 record, a number 25 ranking in the NABC Division II coaches poll and a berth in this weekend's NCAA Division II East Regional tournament, was previously named the Player of the Year in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Laput led the conference in scoring by nearly three a game and will enter this weekend's action at 20.7 a game. He has scored at least 20 in 19 of the 27 games and over the last five, has boosted his production to an average of 24.2 on 61 percent shooting.

Laput does more than just score for the Falcons. He also averages 6.7 rebounds, three assists and one steal while shooting .551 overall, .429 from deep and .840 from the foul stripe.

In his most recent game, a 71-70 loss at Saint Anselm in the NE10 semifinals, Laput eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau, becoming the 57th player in program history to do so.

Bentley will face Dominican University (N.Y.) Saturday at Saint Anselm College in the opening round of the NCAA Division II East Regional tournament.
