Bentley Men Visit SNHU Tuesday in Search of 4th Straight Win

WALTHAM, Mass. – After posting its highest point total in four years, the 5-1 Bentley University men's basketball team will be looking for its fourth straight win when it plays at Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday at 7:30 pm. Fans can view the game on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

It will be the second meeting between the two programs in ten days and Bentley's fourth game in that same timeframe. The current streak began with a 94-79 non-conference win over SNHU three days after Thanksgiving and continued with wins over Assumption (93-87) and Bridgeport (111-72).

After a 4-0 start, Southern New Hampshire has lost three of four, including 87-83 in overtime at Franklin Pierce Saturday, to fall to 5-3 overall and 2-2 NE10. In the last three, the Penmen have been without sophomore guard Jacari Sanders, who averages 12.6 points and five assists.

In the first meeting between the two teams, graduate guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) scored a season-high 26 points, 18 coming via the three-ball, and collected eight rebounds. Four teammates also reached doubles in the points column, including sophomore guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) and senior guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS), with 18 and 17, respectively.

On Saturday, five different Falcons scored between 18 and 21 points to lead coach Jay Lawson's team to the 39-point win over Bridgeport. Bentley buried 17 three-pointers, scored 21 fastbreak points and dominated the boards, 52-30.

Mello-Klein and Laput each had 21 with Mello-Klein also finishing with 13 assists and nine rebounds in a near triple-double. Laput's total was a career-best, as was the 19 scored by junior Isaac Martin (Peachtree Gardens, Ga./Norcross HS) and the 18 from sophomore guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) in his first career start.

It's been a standout start to the season for Mello-Klein, who is averaging 16 points while leading the team in rebounds (8.2), assists (38), steals (11) and three-pointers (20).

Webb is up to 14.5 points a game and Laput is right behind him at 14.2 for the high-scoring Falcons (90.3 ppg).

SNHU, coached by former Bentley captain and assistant coach Jack Perri, is led by six-seven freshman Aaron Gray. He's scored exactly 22 four times, including the first Bentley game, but was limited to eight by Franklin Pierce. That dropped his season norm to 17.8.

Also in doubles for the Penmen are Mt. St. Mary's transfer Matt Becht, at 13.9, and Stony Brook transfer Corry Long, at 13.5. Becht is the team's top threat from deep, with 30 threes and a .462 accuracy rate.

This week's schedule also has the Falcons at home against Franklin Pierce Sunday afternoon.
