On This Day, 2008: Bentley Routs Southern Connecticut to Complete 2nd Straight Undefeated Regular Season

On February 26, 2008 at the Dana Center, the number one-ranked Bentley men's basketball team grabbed control with an early 16-0 run and went on to post a commanding 95-64 win over Southern Connecticut State University to wrap up a second straight undefeated regular season.

The win was the 54th straight regular season win for coach Jay Lawson's 27-0 Falcons, the longest in NCAA Division II history, as well as Bentley's 31st consecutive home court victory.

It was a balanced scoring attack for the Falcons, who placed five in double figures. At the top of the list were sophomore guard Jason Westrol and junior guard Lew Finnegan, who each put up 19 points in 26 minutes of action. Westrol also had five rebounds and four steals, and Finnegan followed with four boards.

Junior forward Michael Sikonski made six of nine shots overall and all of his six free throws while scoring a career-high 18 points. The Falcons also received 16 points from senior guard Yusuf Abdul-Ali, and senior forward Nate Fritsch added 14 markers on five-of-seven shooting off the bench.

The Falcon advantage stood at a 22 at the half, 53-31, with Finnegan already having 17 points by intermission.

Bentley outshot the visiting 7-20 Owls, 50-41 percent, and finished 8 of 14 from three-point land. The Falcons also had a dozen more free throws, 21-9, and 11 less turnovers, 12-23.
