Bentley Visits Saint Anselm Tuesday in Regular Season Finale; Playoff Seeds on the Line

WALTHAM, Mass. – With playoff seeds for both teams still to be determined, the Bentley University Falcons will be in Manchester, N.H. Tuesday evening to close out the regular season against Saint Anselm College at the Stoutenburgh Gym. The 7:30 pm game can be viewed over the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

Bentley, following Saturday's 105-72 win over Franklin Pierce, will either be the third or fourth seed, depending on the outcome of Tuesday's play. The Falcons are currently in fourth, but could move up with a win over the Hawks and a Franklin Pierce loss to Assumption.

The number three seed will draw a first round bye and will play the Southwest Division's second seed on the road Sunday. The number four seed will host a first-round game on Friday evening.

Saint Anselm, which currently tops the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division, is assured of a first-round bye and a quarterfinal home game. The Hawks would capture the division with a win or would be the number two seed, behind Stonehill, if Bentley gets the road win Tuesday.

It'll be the second meeting of the season between the two teams with Bentley seeking the sweep and Saint Anselm looking to bounce back from a 76-65 road loss in early January. In that one, the Falcons trailed by as many as 16 in the first half but outscored the Hawks 40-23 in the second to gain the victory.

Junior guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) led Bentley with 24 points and Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine./Williston Northampton School) followed with 21 as the duo combined to make 20 of 33 shots. Freshman guard Tyler Arbuckle led Saint Anselm with 21 points.

Bentley, 17-10 overall and 9-9 NE10, is coming off an impressive offensive performance on Saturday when the Falcons connected at a 54 percent clip, tied a season-best with 16 three-pointers and made 11 of 12 free throws. It was also a dominating rebound effort with coach Jay Lawson's squad finishing with 23 more, 49-26 and outscoring the Ravens 19-5 on second chance opportunities.

Sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) led the way with 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./The Hill School) buried seven three-pointers on Senior Day for a career-best 23 points.

Hudson, the 21st player in program history to reach 1,400 points, leads Bentley with averages of 19.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.5 steals. He's playing over 35 minutes a game for the second straight season and is the NE10 leader in field goal percentage (.580).

Webb and Mello-Klein, two of the most accurate three-point shooters in Bentley history, follow with averages of 15.8 and 12.1 points, respectively.

Saint Anselm, after midseason struggles in which the Hawks lost seven of 12, has won seven in a row, including 73-65 at St. Michael's Saturday. The Hawks have been near-perfect at home, winning 10 of 11 with the only loss being 88-79 to Bridgeport back on Dec. 18.

All five Hawk starters are averaging in doubles with the group having accounted for 87 percent of the scoring and 92 percent of the three-pointers.

Junior forward Chris Paul heads the list with averages of 18.6 points and 7.6 rebounds, and Arbuckle follows at 14.3. Sophomore guard Miles Tention, a 45 percent shooting from outside the arc, and senior guard Danny Evans are also at 14.3.
