No. 23 Bentley Returns Home with 4-Game Winning Streak to Take on Saint Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. – After closing out the 2019 portion of the schedule with two wins in New Jersey and opening 2020 with an 85-74 win at Saint Rose Thursday, the Bentley University men's basketball team will be back in the Dana Center Saturday afternoon to take on Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action. The 3:30 pm game will be webcast on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

The current four-game win streak, which began with a 75-56 win over Southern New Hampshire Dec. 10 in the most recent home game, has improved the Bentley record to 11-2 and moved the Falcons into the NABC Division II rankings at number 24. Coach Jay Lawson's team is unbeaten in seven home games and 3-1 NE10.

Saint Anselm, which is tied with Bentley for first in the NE10's Northeast Division, is 7-4 overall and 1-3 on the road this season. The Hawks, after dropping three of their last four to close out 2019, opened the New Year with an impressive 87-59 win over Daemen College on New Year's Day.

All five Bentley starters own double-digit scoring averages and following a career-high 21 points from sophomore guard Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) in the Saint Rose game, each has posted at least one 20-point game this season.

Senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton School) is one of three Northeast-10 players producing at least 18 points and eight rebounds a game, and is also the conference leader in blocks (1.8). His 23-point, 12-rebound double-double at Saint Rose was his fourth of the season.

Following Hudson on the Bentley scoring list are sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuiness HS), junior guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy), Wright-Kinsey and junior forward Peter Blust (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS).

Webb, coming off his second double-double in the last three games, averages 16.8 points and five rebounds. Mello-Klein's stat line includes 12.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and seven assists a game, and Wright-Kinsey is up to 10.6. Blust completes the list at 10.4 with a .550 field goal percentage.

Bentley leads the Northeast-10 in a number of team categories, including scoring (85.5), scoring margin (15.1), assists (18.5), field goal percentage (.499) and rebound margin (8.8). Coach Jay Lawson's team is also first nationally in Division II in fewest fouls committee at 11.1 a game.

Saint Anselm, which scores 82 a game as a team, has four players who average at least 14 points with junior forward Chris Paul at the top of the list. He averages 17.5 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 51 percent overall.

Guard Tyler Arbuckle leads NE10 freshmen in scoring, averaging 15 a game after scoring 26 in the Daemen win.  The other two are senior guard Danny Evans and sophomore guard Miles Tention, at 14.6 and 14.3, respectively. All three have knocked down at least 20 three-pointers.

Bentley will be looking to end a five-game losing streak in the series against Keith Dickson's Hawks and even the all-time count at 49 wins apiece. The last Falcon win against the Hawks came in February 2017, 91-85.

Two games are on next week's schedule, a road game at St. Michael's Wednesday and a home encounter with Southern Connecticut next Saturday.
