Bentley Visits Assumption Wednesday, Looking to Continue Home Success on Road

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's basketball team is a perfect 6-0 at home this season but came up short in its only road contest to date, falling at the University of Bridgeport.

The Falcons will be on the road twice this week for Northeast-10 Conference games, beginning Wednesday with a 7:30 pm encounter in Worcester against Assumption College, and will be looking to extend their early season success to away from the Dana Center. The game can be viewed on the NE10 NOW digital network.

Bentley will head into Wednesday's game riding a three-game winning streak that has seen the Falcons prevail over New York Tech, Stonehill and American International by an average of 25 points. Coach Jay Lawson's team has shot .503 overall and .426 from three-point territory so far this season while outscoring the opposition by 20.7 points and posting a +10.4 rebound margin. The Falcons currently lead Division II in fewest fouls, averaging 10 a game.

Bentley currently has four players who own double-figure scoring averages, a list headed by sophomore guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) and senior forward Chris Hudson (Hodgdon, Maine/Williston Northampton School). Both were quiet in the AIC game, scoring eight and nine respectively, but are currently at 17.6 and 16.3 for the season. Webb has made more than half of his three-pointers (19 of 37) and Hudson is eight points away from becoming Bentley's 54th 1,000-point scorer.

Senior guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) is off to a strong start, averaging 11.3 points, six rebounds and a conference-best 8.4 assists. Junior forward Pete Blust (Hinsdale, Ill./ Hinsdale HS) is also in doubles, at 10.3, and sophomore guard Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Brooks School) is just a shade under at 9.9.

Off the bench, senior guard Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Reading HS) produces nine a game and has the NE10's second-best three-point percentage (15-27, .556).

Assumption has dropped consecutive games to Franklin Pierce and Stonehill to slip to 4-3 overall and 1-2 Northeast-10. The Greyhounds have found success in Laska Gym in Scott Faucher's first season at the helm, winning three of four.

Junior point guard Matthew Kelly, who had a 36-point game against Bentley as a freshman, leads the Hounds with averages of 17.3 points, 4.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals. He's a key reason Assumption is shooting 39 percent from three as a team as he is 22 of 53 (.415) from deep.

Junior forward Malik Brown follows at 13.7 a game and the Hounds also receive at least nine a game from freshman Isiah Gaiter, sophomore Cal Connelly and senior Branislav Vujadinovic.

Bentley swept the series last year, 76-51 at the Dana Center to kick off 2019 and 66-65 in Worcester on Feb. 9. In that one, former Falcon All-America hit a short pull-up with 35 seconds for the game's 19th and final lead change.

This week's schedule also has Bentley traveling to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce on Saturday.
