Bentley Looks to Make it 4 Wins in 5 Games Wednesday against Pace

WALTHAM, Mass. – Coming off a wire-to-wire 77-65 victory over American International College, the Bentley University men's basketball team will be looking for its fourth win in a span of five games when it hosts Pace University Wednesday at 7:30 pm. A free webcast will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.tv.

A win for the Falcons would even Bentley's overall record at 8-8 and give coach Jay Lawson's club its second 4-1 five-game stretch of the season. The Falcons are 4-6 in the Northeast-10, good for sixth place in the Northeast Division but just a half-game out of fourth.

Pace will make its bi-annual trip to the Dana Center with records of 5-13 overall and 2-8 NE10. The Setters have dropped three straight and 10 of their last 11 following a 4-3 start to the season. The one win during that stretch was a quality one, 85-75 at Saint Anselm on Jan. 4.

Saturday's win over AIC saw five Falcons score in double figures, including senior guard Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./Cushing Academy). One of the conference's most accurate three-point shooters, he's connected from deep ten times in the two games against the Yellow Jackets, including four during a 16-point performance in the most recent game. For the season, he's averaging 9.8 points and shooting .481 from downtown.

Sophomore guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) has his season output up to 19.8 points after scoring 20-plus in three straight games. His 20-point effort against AIC included a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line. It was the fifth time this season he's gotten to the line at least ten times.

Sophomore forward Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) has raised his season average to 11.5 points after reaching double figures in six straight games. He has started five of those, and in that role, has given the Falcons nearly 17 a game.

Bentley's starting five usually also includes senior guard Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.)) and junior forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS). Wheeler leads the Falcons in rebounds (8.3) and steals (25) while scoring 10.9 a game. Duke (9.3 ppg) is second in both assists (29) and steals (15).

While Bentley is fifth in the conference in scoring (79.5 a game), Pace comes in ranking 15th at 68.9. The Setters also rank 14th or 15th in all three shooting categories.

Second-year head coach Matt Healing has used 11 different starters already this season and not one Setter has gotten the call in all 18 games.  Senior forward Austin Motunanya (17 games), sophomore wing Ryan Peterson (16) and grad student Christian White (14) are the only three who have started over half the games.

Peterson leads Pace in scoring at 14.8 points and his 51 three-pointers ranks fourth in the NE10. Mofunanya follows at 13.4 and he leads the team in rebounds (8.1) and blocks (20). Mofunanya and six-eight junior Victor Jusino are both shooting over 56 percent from the floor, although Jusino has been out since early December.

Bentley will also be at home on Saturday when red-hot Le Moyne pays a visit to the Dana Center.
