Bentley Back at Home Wednesday, Looking for Win No. 5

WALTHAM, Mass. – When the Bentley University men's basketball team last played at home, the Falcons left the court sporting a 4-1 overall record and shooting percentages of .493 overall and .466 from three.

The Falcons, now 4-4 overall and 2-3 Northeast-10, will be back at the Dana Center  for the first time in 15 days Wednesday night, hosting St. Michael's College and looking to rebound from three straight road losses in which they shot about 100 points less and averaged only six three-pointers.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm with a free webcast available at www.bentleyfalcons.tv.

Sophomore guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate), who has had both a career-high 32 points and a double-double in recent games, is the focal point of the Falcon offense. He's been the team's top scorer in six games and his 19.3 scoring average is fifth best in the NE10, not to mention an improvement of more than 13 points over his rookie season.

Richmond, in addition to his scoring contributions, is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 5.9. Among Northeast-10 guards, he's the only one averaging at least 16 points and five rebounds.

Veteran head coach Jay Lawson has five other players producing between 8.7 and 10.1 points a game with that list headed by junior forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS). He leads the Falcons in rebounds (6.6 per game) and field goal percentage (.536), and complements his 10.1 average with 1.3 steals a game.

Three Falcons are in the top five in the NE10 in three-point accuracy with senior Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./Cushing Academy) 16 of 31 (.516) from deep and both freshman Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Hill School) and sophomore Kyle Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) 10 of 20.

Although St. Michael's (0-7, 0-5 NE10) is still in search of its inaugural win of the campaign, the Purple Knights feature the conference's most dominant post play in six-foot-five senior Matt Bonds. He leads the NE10 in rebounding for the second straight year (11.3 a game) and is second in scoring at 22.6. Bonds has had at least four offensive rebounds in six of seven games  and has come up with two steals in four straight.

Sophomore guard Levi Holmes III is the Knights' primary outside scoring threat with 18 three-balls and a .486 accuracy mark from downtown. The 15.1 point-per-game scorer has connected on multiple threes in every game so far this season.

St. Michael's has allowed its opponents to shoot .502 overall and has been guilty of 17 turnovers a game, 4.6 more than it forces.

Bentley owns a three-game winning streak against St. Michael's, including 76-53 and 77-60 victories last season, after dropping six of the previous seven meetings.

Bentley's final conference game until after the holidays will be Saturday afternoon at Stonehill.
