Bentley Visits Saint Anselm Wednesday, Aiming for 3rd Win in Last 4 Games

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's basketball team will be looking to bounce back from a Sunday loss at Dominican College and gain its third win in its last four games when it plays at Saint Anselm College Wednesday evening. A free webcast will be available at www.saintanselmhawks.tv for the 7:30 pm contest.

Following Northeast-10 Conference wins over Franklin Pierce and Merrimack College, Bentley came up short in its first post-Thanksgiving game, falling to the Chargers 80-73. There was a 27-point swing in the game with the Falcons up by 13 late in the first half and down 14 about 18 minutes later.

Against Dominican, Bentley shot a season-low .411, had its fewest three-pointers (3) since January 2015 and posted its second highest turnover count of the season (18).

Despite the offensive issues in that one, Bentley (4-2, 2-1 NE-10) still leads the conference in three-point shooting (.438), is third in assists (16.7) and is fourth in three-pointers (9.5) and field goal percentage (.480).

Sophomore guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) is off to a strong start to the season as he's one of only two players in the conference averaging at least 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and three assists. He's third in the NE-10 in free throws made (34) and is coming off a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double.

The starting frontcourt tandem of junior Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) and sophomore Kyle Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) are Bentley's other double-figure scorers, with averages of 10.7 and 10.3, respectively. Wheeler leads the Falcons in rebounds (7.2) and Bouchard has knocked down 10 of 17 three-pointers.

Senior guards Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.)) and Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./Cushing Academy), both of whom average a little over nine a game, round out the starting unit. Barr has  drained 12 of 22 from deep, and Duke has a team-leading nine steals.

Saint Anselm is off to a 1-2 start, all conference games, with the starting five having scored  88 percent of the team's points to far. The Hawks have been vulnerable at the defensive end so far as they've given up 86 points a game with the opponents shooting .527 overall and .535 from three.

Sophomore guard Tim Guers is off to a fast start, averaging 21.3 points after scoring 30 in the 104-87 win at St. Michael's. Classmate Cody Ball follows at 16.3 points per game and senior forward Harrison Taggart provides 16 points, 6.3 rebounds, five assists and 1.3 blocks per game.

Bentley and Saint Anselm split the season series a year ago with each prevailing on its home court. The Falcons posted an 86-78 win on Dec. 2, and the Hawks countered with a 102-83 victory Feb. 20.

Bentley will conclude a string of three straight on the road Saturday when it plays at Southern New Hampshire, a game that will be broadcast on both NESN Plus and NESN National.
