4-1 Bentley Begins 3-Game Road Trip Sunday at Dominican

WALTHAM, Mass. – After playing four of its first five at home, the Bentley University men's basketball team will begin a string of three straight on the road Sunday afternoon in Orangeburg, N.Y. with a 1 pm contest at Dominican College.

Despite having been hit hard by last May's graduation, the new-look Falcons will be seeking their fifth win in six games when they take on the Chargers. They'll be facing a Dominican team that owns a 4-2 record, including double-digit wins in each of its home contests.

Bentley is coming off an 80-72 win over Assumption Tuesday night, a game in which they knocked down double-digit three-pointers for the fourth time already this season and led for the final 39:25. The starting five were a combined 9 of 14 from beyond the arc.

The NE-10 leader in three-pointers made (10.8) and accuracy from downtown (.466), Bentley  has three double-figure scorers and two others at 9.6 points per game. At the head of the list is sophomore guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate), whose 17.8 average ranks tenth in the 15-team conference.

Forwards Kyle Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) and Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) both have averaged 11.2 in the first five games, and guards Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./Cushing Academy) and Ferguson Duke (Dartmouth, N.S./Hun School (N.J.)) follow.

Barr and Bouchard are both shooting over 60 percent from outside the arc and Wheeler, Bentley's leading rebounder (7.6) has made close to two-thirds of his shots from inside the three-point line.

Off the bench, Bentley's top scorers are sophomore Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) and freshman Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Hill School) with averages of 7.5 and 6.6, respectively. Stankiewicz has knocked down 7 of 14 from deep, and Gilpin has made and attempted one less.

Dominican will be the third member of the CACC that the Falcons will face this season, the others being Bloomfield College and Post University during the Bentley Tip-Off Classic. Both were wins, 95-82 over Bloomfield and 84-56 against Post.

The Chargers feature six-foot-eight junior Gerrel Irvin, the only player in the CACC averaging a double-double. He's off to an impressive start to the season, giving his team 17.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.2 steals a game.

The team's other double-figure scorer is freshman guard Daraja Rodwell, who has averaged 13 points and made 19 of 44 threes in his first six collegiate contests.

Before the next home game on Dec. 7, Bentley will also make two trips to New Hampshire for games against Saint Anselm (Nov. 30) and Southern New Hampshire (Dec. 3).
