Bentley Takes to Road for First Time for Saturday Evening Contest at Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – After opening the season with three in a row at the Dana Center, the Bentley University men's basketball team will go on the road for the first time this season on Saturday, visiting Franklin Pierce University for a 6 pm contest at the Fieldhouse. Links to live video and stats will be available at www.bentleyfalcons.com.

Coach Jay Lawson's club will head to southwest New Hampshire with records of 2-1 overall and 0-1 Northeast-10 following a 68-61 loss to Merrimack College on Wednesday. The Falcons were just 7 of 27 from three-point land and saw the Warriors turn 22 turnovers into 34 points in the conference opener for both teams.

That was significantly different from the opening weekend when Bentley shot nearly 57 percent from outside the arc and totaled only 23 turns in non-conference victories over Bloomfield, the preseason favorite in the CACC North, and Post University.

Three games into the season, Bentley has three double-figure scorers with sophomore guard Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) at the top of the list. He's averaging 17 points, six rebounds and 3.3 assists while playing nearly 33 minutes a game.

Sophomore forward Kyle Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) and junior forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) follow, at 12.0 and 11.7 points, respectively. Both have eight offensive rebounds, and Wheeler is the team's top rebounder overall, averaging 8.0.

Franklin Pierce will be playing its first home game after splitting two games during a tournament at Philadelphia and winning an NE-10 contest at St. Michael's Wednesday. In that 90-76 victory, Donte Gittens and Matt Banton combined for 48 points.

Four players are scoring in doubles for a Ravens team that is averaging 79.3 points and limiting its opponents to 35 percent shooting overall and 25 percent from three. Gittens is at the top of that list and he complements his 18.3 points per game with averages of 6.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.3 blocks and one steal.

Six-foot-eight Mike McDevitt follows at 13.3, Banton owns a 12.3 average, and junior Jordan Lackey is at 10.3. The Ravens' starting five, which also includes Asante Sandiford (8.3 ppg, 10.0 rpg), accounts for 79 percent of the team's scoring.

Bentley and Franklin Pierce split during the regular season last year, with both winning on their home court, before the Falcons prevailed 86-71 in the quarterfinals of the conference championships.

Before beginning a stretch of three straight on the road after Thanksgiving, Bentley will be back at home Tuesday to take on Assumption College.
