Bentley Hosts Merrimack Wednesday, Seeking to Complete 3-0 Homestand

WALTHAM, Mass. – After some impressive shooting during the opening weekend, the Bentley University men's basketball will look to make it a 3-0 season-opening homestand when it launches its Northeast-10 Conference schedule Wednesday night against Merrimack College.  Tip-off at the Dana Center is set for 7:30 pm.

Bentley is coming off wins over Bloomfield, 95-82, and Post, 84-56, in which it connected a total of 26 times from downtown. Coach Jay Lawson's club, which will be looking to go 3-0 for the third time in four seasons, shot 54.6 percent overall and 56.5 percent from three during the two wins.

Merrimack, 1-1, will be playing its fourth consecutive game in the Dana Center. The Warriors finished last season with a 97-95 loss at Bentley and were also part of the Bentley Tip-Off Classic this past weekend where they defeated Post, 80-61, and lost to Bloomfield, 97-83.

Sophomores Ryan Richmond (Toronto, Ont./Thomson Collegiate) and Kyle Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) both played well for the Falcons during the opening weekend. Richmond, a six-foot guard, averaged 19.5 points, six rebounds and 3.5 steals while Bouchard made 68 percent of his shots, including six of eight three-pointers, and averaged 16.5 points and 4.5 rebounds.

Junior forward Brandon Wheeler (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic HS) had back-to-back double-doubles along with a .563 shooting mark. He put up 13 points and 10 rebounds against Bloomfield and followed that with 11 and 11 against Post.

During the Tip-Off Classic, Bentley also received solid performances from several others, including senior guard Matt Barr (Stratham, N.H./Cushing Academy) who averaged eight points and made four of five triples. Off the bench, sophomore Zach Gilpin (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) made six of nine shots and averaged 8.5 points, senior Tyler Gibson (Rockland/Rockland HS) collected 13 rebounds in 27 minutes, and guards Seth Stankiewicz (Reading, Pa./Hill School) and Chris Murray (Littleton/Littleton HS) combined to make five of six threes off the bench.

Sophomore wing Ryan Boulter (Mansfield) averaged 19 points for Merrimack during the opening weekend with most of his scoring coming in Saturday's game against Post.  He was 12-of-15 from the floor against the Eagles, with five three-pointers, during a 35-point night.
