Hyland Repeats as NE-10 Men’s Basketball Sport Excellence Winner, Named to Academic All-NE-10 Team with McFarland

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University graduate student Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) has been chosen as the Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Winner for men's basketball as the conference's premier student-athlete in the sport.

Hyland was also voted to the Academic All-Northeast-10 team for the third straight year and was joined on the five-player squad by teammate Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS). Bentley was the only team to be represented by two players on the Academic All-Conference team.

Hyland, a two-time first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America® who helped the Falcons to the NE-10 Northeast Division title and a berth in the NCAA Division II East Region, averaged 20.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals in his final collegiate season. He shot .505 from the floor and made 41 percent of his three-pointers.

The fourth leading scorer in the NE-10 and a second-team All-Conference and All-Region honoree, Hyland boosted his production in each of his three seasons and finished his career with the fifth best scoring average in program history, 17.8 points per game.

McFarland added Academic All-Conference to a list of accolades that included NABC Division II All-America, second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America and Bentley's all-time leading scorer (2,118 points). He led the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding for the fourth straight year, a feat unprecedented in program history.

As a senior, the six-five senior produced 22.6 points a game while posting the second highest point total (678) and scoring average in school history. He was the number two scorer in the conference and is one of only nine players in NCAA basketball this season (all divisions) with at least 2,000 points and 800 rebounds career.

Hyland, who is pursuing his MBA with a concentration in finance, has a 3.92 GPA. McFarland owns a 3.46 in mathematical sciences, including 3.91 over the last two semesters.

Bentley finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 21-9 record.
