Bentley Heads to AIC Saturday in Search of 9th Win in 10 Northeast-10 Games

WALTHAM, Mass. – Two of the hottest teams in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball will go at it Saturday afternoon when the Bentley University Falcons head out the Mass Pike to take on American International College at Butova Gymnasium. The 3:30 pm contest will have a free webcast at www.aicyellowjackets.tv.

Bentley, after taking down formerly 14-2 Adelphi on Wednesday, is 11-3 overall and 8-1 in the NE-10 after winning seven of its last eight with the last six wins decided by at least 15 points. Coach Jay Lawson's club is second in the NE-10's Northeast Division, a half-game back of Saint Anselm College who is playing 13-3 Southern Connecticut Saturday.

AIC, which started the season with six straight losses, has won six of its last seven to move to within a game of .500, 7-8. The Yellow Jackets have won five straight on their home court and are 3-6 in conference action.

Bentley's  81-61 wire-to-wire win over Adelphi on Wednesday, a game that saw the Falcons lead by as many as 31, featured a combined 43 points from grad student Keegan Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and senior forward Tyler McFarland (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills HS) with both players achieving scoring milestones.

Hyland, with 22 points, became the 51st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, doing so in just 61 games over two-and-a-half seasons. He's been the team's top scorer in conference play, averaging 22.2 points, and has produced 25.7 points a game over the last three on 70 percent shooting. During that stretch, he's had 22, 16 and 18 points by intermission.

McFarland, number two on the NE-10 scoring list at 22.3, took sole possession of fourth on Bentley's all-time scoring list, surpassing Tim Forbes '06. He'll begin Saturday's game with 1,752, needing 16 to pass Brian Hammel '75 for third all-time, behind Bill Holden '90 (2,103) and Jason Westrol (2,068). He'll be making his first trip to AIC since scoring 32 points on a school-record 12-for-12 shooting as a sophomore.

Senior guard Alex Furness (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) has made at least half of his three-pointers in ten games and is currently third in the NE-10 in both accuracy from downtown (.524) and triples per game (3.1). He's also among the national leaders in assist-turnover ratio and his scoring average stands at 15.5.

Seniors Cameron Dobbs and Trahmier Burrell, two of the seven AIC players who began their collegiate careers elsewhere, are the two double-figure scorers for the Yellow Jackets.  Dobbs is averaging 15.5 points with 45 three-pointers and Burrell, who nailed the game-winner in the final second for an 88-86 win over Franklin Pierce Wednesday, follows at 13.7.

Six-foot-seven senior Oscar Assie, who scores 8.7 a game on 51 percent shooting, is a force on the offensive boards. In fact,  only one player in the 15-team conference has more offensive rebounds than his 53.

Bentley will also be on the road twice next week, visiting Pace on Wednesday and Le Moyne next Saturday.
