2014-15 Season in Review

Team

  • The 2014-15 Bentley Falcons posted the program's 19th winning season in the last 20 years
  • From Nov. 30-Feb. 4, the Falcons won 11 of 13 games
  • Bentley ranked in the top three in the Northeast-10 in free throw percentage (.756), fewest turnovers (11.4), three-point accuracy (.373) and three-pointers made (9.3)
  • Bentley finished in the top four in Division II in fewest fouls committed for the ninth time in the last ten seasons
  • Bentley was 11-1 when holding the opponents to 72 points or less and 7-1 when keeping opponents under .425 shooting
  • The Falcons were 12-2 when shooting better than the opponents
  • Bentley won 11 of the 14 games in which it made at least ten three-pointers and was 12-4 when it buried more three-balls than the opponents
  • The Falcons have made at least one three-pointer in 762 consecutive games, a streak that dates back to December 1989
  • Bentley's 104-57 victory over Bridgeport Nov. 30 was its largest margin of victory since Nov. 1995
  • According to the NCAA, Bentley played the nation's sixth toughest schedule during the 2014-15 season, with ten of the games against teams that competed in the NCAA Division II East Regional
  • The Falcons  didn't go to overtime for the second straight season, but are 10-0 in overtime games since the start of the 2006-07 season
  • Bentley played five one-point games this past season, including the last two and four of the last seven. In one-point games, the Falcons posted a 2-3 record

  • Second-team All-Northeast-10 Conference honoree for the second straight year
  • Led team in scoring (19.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 rpg) for the third straight year, a feat unprecedented in program history
  • Only Northeast-10 player over the last four seasons to shoot .500 from the field, .450 from three and .820 from the line and he achieved those numbers for the second straight season
  • Finished junior year with 1,440 points, the second most by a Bentley player prior to his senior season
  • Ranks No. 1 in program history in career three-point percentage and career minutes played per game (34.2), and is also second in free throw percentage (.858) and average blocks (1.3), third in total blocks (109), fifth in scoring average (17.6), sixth in defensive rebounds (5.3) and 12th in average rebounds (7.5)
  • Played 36.2 minutes a game as a junior, the second highest single figure average in Bentley history
  • Scored 20 or more points ten times, with a high of 31 against New Haven Dec. 21, and had six double-doubles
  • His 1000th point came Nov. 25 at Southern New Hampshire as he became the 50th player in program history to reach that milestone
  • Finished the season ranking third among active Division II players in three-point accuracy (.469), 19th in scoring average (17.6), 27th in double-doubles (19) and 28th in free throw percentage (.858)
  • In the Northeast-10, ranked second in blocks (2.0), third in three-point percentage (.451), fourth in scoring (19.1), sixth in minutes (36.2), sixth in defensive rebounds (5.5), seventh in free throw percentage (.856), seventh in field goals (188), ninth in rebounds (7.2) and tenth in field goal percentage (.516)
  • Nationally, ranked 24th in Division II in blocks, 29th in minutes, 45th in scoring and 45th in free throw percentage
  • Fourth player in Falcon annals to have multiple 500-point seasons
  • Started every game for Bentley for the third straight season
  • Northeast-10/Spalding Player of the Week once (Dec. 22)
  • Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll 11 times (Nov. 25, Dec. 1, 8, 15, Jan. 5, 12, 19, Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23)

13   Keegan Hyland, Sr, G, 6-4, South Portland, Maine (South Portland HS)

  • Became Bentley's first men's basketball Academic All-America in 35 years with selection to the Capital One first team
  • Northeast-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence award winner for men's basketball, in addition to earning Academic All-Northeast-10 for the second straight season
  • Edward J. Powers Scholar-Athlete Award as Bentley's premier senior scholar-athlete
  • Selected 3rd-team All-Northeast-10 after averaging 19.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists
  • That combined production level has never been achieved by a Bentley player and hasn't been accomplished by an NE-10 player in more than a decade
  • Led team in assists (97) and three-pointers (66) while ranking second in most other categories
  • Was fifth in the Northeast-10 in scoring, as well as fifth in points per 40 minutes (23.2), eighth in field goals (186), ninth in three-pointers per game (2.4), tenth in defensive rebounds (5.3), 11th in three-pointers (66), 11th in assists, 12th in rebounds and 12th in points (513)
  • Ranked 48th in Division II in scoring
  • Scored at least 20 points nine times, including four straight games from Dec. 6-19, a stretch in which he averaged 25.2 points
  • His four double-doubles included 31 points and 11 rebounds against Holy Family Nov. 15, 27 points and 12 rebounds at Stonehill Feb. 21, and 19 points and 14 rebounds at Franklin Pierce Feb. 24
  • Had multiple three-pointers 21 times, including the season's final four games
  • Northeast-10/Spalding Player of the Week once (Dec. 15)
  • Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll 11 times (Nov. 17, 24, Dec. 8, 22, Jan. 5, 26, Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23, Mar. 2)
  • 761 points and 298 rebounds in 47 career games (32 starts) with his career average of 16.2 points seventh best in program history

14   Alex Furness, Jr, G, 6-5, Wells, Maine (Wells HS/Cushing Academy)

  • Appeared in 21 games, with 20 starts, and averaged 9.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists
  • Missed six games with a shoulder injury from Nov. 19-Dec. 6 with the Falcons 13-7 when he was available to play at least 20 minutes
  • Finished season ranked third in the Northeast-10 in assist-turnover ratio (2.1) and 13th in assists
  • Was also 66th in Division II nationally in assist-turnover ratio
  • Scored in doubles eight times with a high of 23, on 9-of-11 shooting, Jan. 31 against Pace
  • Bentley was 6-2 when he had at least four assists and 5-1 when he took at least four free throws
  • In home games, shot .569 overall and .444 from three while averaging 10.8 points
  • Knocked down five three-pointers twice (Jan. 31 vs. Pace, Feb. 14 vs. St. Michael's), making 10 of 13 from deep in those two games
  • Named to Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll Feb. 2
  • 655 points, 299 rebounds and 232 assists in 76 career games (59 starts)

20   J.P. Koury, Sr, G, 6-4, Red Bank, N.J. (CBA)

  • In 26 games, all as a starter, provided the Falcons with 9.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and a team-best 1.6 steals a game
  • Was third on the team in scoring,  rebounding and getting to the line (58-73)
  • Finished career with a season-best 20 points, on 9-of-14 shooting, at Franklin Pierce Feb. 24
  • Opened the season with 18 points, nine rebounds, five steals and no turnovers in a 72-63 win over preseason No. 14 Philadelphia Nov. 14
  • A day later, grabbed a season-high ten points and came within a point of a double-double in a 68-67 loss to Holy Family
  • Scored in double figures 12 times, including three in a row Dec. 19-31 and again Feb. 18-24
  • Was tenth in the Northeast-10 in steals per game (1.6)
  • Two appearances on the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll (Dec. 22, Mar. 2)
  • Ranks 11th in school history in career steals per game (1.3) and 13th in total steals (136)
  • Finished career with averages of 8.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists
  • 880 points, 430 rebounds and 191 assists in 103 career games (76 starts) 

33   Andrew Shaw, Sr, F, 6-5, Saco, Maine (Thornton Academy)

  • As the team's first forward off the bench for most of the season, averaged 6.2 points and 2.4 rebounds
  • Was third on the squad in three-pointers, connecting 35 times from deep
  • Four of his six double-figure scoring games came off the bench, including a season-best 21 points against Le Moyne Dec. 14
  • Bentley was 8-2 when he made multiple three-pointers, including 5-1 when he hit at least three from downtown
  • In program history, ranks 13th in three-pointers made (162), three-pointers attempted (412) and three-point percentage (.393)
  • 162 career three-pointers ranked 77th amongst active Division II players in 2014-15
  • Finished career with averages of 8.9 points and 3.4 rebounds
  • 832 points and 316 rebounds in 94 career games(42 starts)

23   Shaq Phelps, Jr, F, 6-3, Linden, N.J. (Linden HS)

  • Appeared in all 27 games and was a starter in the final 20
  • Averaged 6.7 points and 3.9 rebounds while playing 22 minutes a game
  • Shot .500 overall, including .558 from inside the three-point line
  • Away from home, shot 53 percent and made 9 of 22 threes (.409) while scoring 7.4 points a game
  • Scored in doubles six times,  including four times in a six-game span Nov. 22-Dec. 9
  • Season-high 16 points against Bridgeport Nov. 30 and again Dec. 9 at Molloy, a game in which he was 7-of-8 from the field
  • Career-best eight rebounds Dec. 3 against Merrimack
  • Career averages of 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds
  • 424 points and 224 rebounds in 78 career games (22 starts)

21   Ferguson Duke, So, G, 6-2, Dartmouth, N.S. (Hun School) 

  • Made eight starts and was one of five Falcons to appear in every game
  • Averaged 5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 20.0 minutes per contest
  • One of the team's top foul shooters, connecting at a .792 success rate
  • Scored 69 percent of his points in the first half of games
  • As a starter, produced 9.5 points a game
  • Six double-figure scoring games included career-best 17 in back-to-back contests against Merrimack Dec. 3 and St. Michael's three days later
  • In the St. Michael's game, buried five three-pointers
  • Bentley was 4-2 when he scored 10 or more
  • Career averages of 4.5 points and 2.1 rebounds
  • 231 points, 109 rebounds and 67 assists in 51 career games (eight starts)
