Bentley Drops 81-55 Decision to Stonehill in Final Home Game of Regular Season

                WALTHAM, Mass.—Senior guard Andre Tongo (Acton) and junior guard Brian Hamor (Guilderland, N.Y.) combined for 32 points, with each connecting three times beyond the three-point line, as Stonehill College shot down Bentley University, 81-55, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center. It was the final home game of the regular season for the Falcons.

Stonehll (17-8, 14-7 NE-10) shot nearly 60 percent overall i in the first half, including a 9-for-14 effort from three-point land, to open a commanding 49-25 lead. Hamor led the way during the first 20 minutes as he connected on three of four from downtown and took 13 points and four assists into the halftime break.

It didn't take the visiting Skyhawks long to assert themselves as they scored the first seven points and buried five of their first six three-point attempts to open a 19-5 lead after six-and-a-half minutes.

Bentley battled back to get within eight at 27-19, using a 7-0 spurt that included five points from junior guard Greg Jacques (Brockton/St. Sebastian HS). However, Stonehill countered with a 13-3 burst that included three-balls from Hamor, junior guard Sam Markle (Bethany, Conn.) and freshman forward Jack Cole (New Providence, N.j.), and the lead shot up to 40-22.

By the time halftime came, Bentley had been held scoreless over the final five minutes and Stonehill had as many three-pointers (9) as the Falcons had field goals.

Senior guard Sam Leclerc (Fayette, Maine/Winthrop HS) led the Falcons with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Freshman guard J.P. Koury (Red Bank, N.J./CBA) and freshman forward Jate Cheshul (Galloway, N.J./Holy Spirit HS) followed with eight points apiece, with Koury also claiming a team-high seven rebounds.

Tongo topped the scoring list with 17 points, and Hamor followed with 15, along with five assists. Senior forward Patrick Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y.) joined them in doubles with 10, and Cole provided nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Stonehill finished at 49 percent from the floor and 52 percent from three as they hit 13 of 25 from outside. The Skyhawks turned 13 Falcon turnovers into a 23 points, blocked six shots and finished with a 42-35 rebounding advantage. Bentley was held to 33 percent shooting and 7 of 25 on threes.

The loss dropped the Falcons to 15-10 overall and 11-10 overall, placing the team in a three-way tie for sixth with one regular season game left. That will be played Tuesday night, a 7:30 pm start at UMass-Lowell.
