Three Different Goal Scorers as Field Hockey Tops St. Thomas Aquinas 3-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley received goals from three different players as they topped St. Thomas Aquinas 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in the first Northeast-10 game of the season.

Libby Harrison, Madison Halas and Meagan Hayes were the goal scorers for the Falcons, who improved to 3-3 on the season overall.

Harrison scored on the second shot of the game, just 54 seconds in. After Katie Thies had a shot saved, Harrison got the rebound and scored from about eight yards on the near post for the goal.

The second goal was scored by Madison Halas, her third of the season, 1:11 into the second quarter. Britney Pearson played a pass in to Megan Hayes who got off a shot that was blocked. The ball fell to Gracie Moore, who threaded a pass through traffic to Halas on the far post for the goal.

The Falcons then took a 3-0 lead when Hayes scored unassisted just over two minutes later. The goal was started with a penalty corner by Pearson which led to a shot by Lida Coco that was blocked. Moore regained possession and fired a shot that was blocked. A scrum resulted in front of the net that saw Hayes get off a shot from close range for the goal.

The Spartans got a goal back from Nicola Van Vuuren before halftime but that was the final goal of the afternoon.

Bentley will be back in action on Wednesday night when they visit Saint Anslem.
