Thies’ Goal Lifts Bentley Past No. 5 Millersville, 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Katie Thies (Liverpool, N.Y.) scored 2:49 into the game and Bentley shut down Millersville the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory over the No. 5 ranked Marauders in the season opener on Sunday.

The goal came off a penalty corner by Britney Pearson (Nashua, N.H.) who played the ball up to Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn.). Halas fed the ball back to Pearson down by the goal, who then fed a centering pass to Thies on the far post for the goal.

Bentley held Millersville to just two shots on goal and Falcons goalie Mia Trottie (Cinnaminson, N.J.) turned them both away to earn the shutout.

Her saves came in with 12 seconds left in the 1st quarter on a shot by Gianna Cugino, and in the 3rd quarter with 5:34 gone on another shot by Cugino.

Bentley will be back in action tomorrow when they take on No. 3 ranked West Chester.
