Winners of 6 of Last 7, Bentley Will Host New Haven Tuesday Night in NE10 Quarterfinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – Ten days after the Bentley University Falcons defeated the University of New Haven in a shootout, the two teams will renew acquaintances on the Bentley Turf Field Tuesday night at 7 pm in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Championships.

Bentley, 6-1 in its last seven contests, is the third-seed and finished the regular season with records of 11-7 overall, 9-4 NE10 and 5-3 at home. New Haven, the sixth seed, has dropped three in a row and is currently 8-10 overall, including 8-5 conference.

The Bentley-New Haven game on Nov. 5 saw the two teams scoreless through regulation and two 10-minute overtimes before sophomore Hannan Blomquist (Westwood/Westwood HS) netted the game-winner on the sixth shootout round.

That was the second straight Falcon-Charger game that was knotted at 0-0 following 80 minutes of play. The previous one came in the 2021 NE10 quarterfinals and that time, it was New Haven who prevailed in the shootout.

Bentley's leading scorers this season are sophomore Lida Coco (Litchfield, Conn./Canterbury School) and junior Katie Thies (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS), each with seven. Coco, who also has four assists, has four game-winners and Thies has two.

Senior Caroline Szatkowski (Reeders, Pa./Pocono Mountain East HS) is the other Falcon with double figures in the points column, with four goals and three assists for 11 points.

Blomquist has three goals, as do freshman Gracie Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) and sophomore Libby Harrison (North Andover/North Andover HS).

Seven Falcons have started every game this season with the list including Thies and Szatkowski. The others are seniors Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham/Notre Dame Academy), Bridget Coughlin (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingsboro Reg. HS) and Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate HS), who had the only goal in a 1-0 victory at American International Saturday, and juniors Emily Crowell (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee HS) and Abigail Hewes (Denmark, Maine/Fryeburg Academy).

Sophomore goalkeeper Mia Trottie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Bishop Eustace HS) has appeared in 11 games, with nine starts, and has a 1.27 goals against average and three shutouts.

Sophie Schreck, with eight goals and six assists, is New Haven's top scoring threat and Keira Integlia (2.44 GAA, 3 shutouts) is the number one goalie.

In the other quarterfinal games, top-seeded Saint Anselm will host crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire, number two Assumption is at home against Pace and the 4-5 contest has Saint Thomas Aquinas at Adelphi.

The semifinals will be on Friday with the Bentley-SNHU winner facing the Assumption-Pace winner with the highest seed hosting.

The championship game will be on Sunday, November 20.
