WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior forward Katie Thies (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS) scored twice for the Bentley University field hockey team, but St. Michael's College upset the Falcons 3-2 in overtime in Northeast-10 Conference action Monday afternoon on the Bentley Turf Field.

Bentley, which had won five in a row, dropped to 10-7 overall and 8-4 NE10 while falling from a tie for fourth in the conference to a tie for fifth. St. Michael's improved to 5-11 overall and 5-7 conference.

St. Michael's, which was outshot 21-9, netted the game-winner with 34 seconds left in the first extra session. After a Falcon save, junior Bridgie Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y.) scored her second of the game and eighth of the season.

It was the third time in the game that the Purple Knights took the lead. Loughlin made it 1-0 midway in the second and classmate Madeleine Biondi (Cranston, R.I.) gave St. Michael's a 2-1 lead with 9:42 remaining in regulation.

Both of Thies' goals evened the score. Her sixth of the season, assisted by senior Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham/Notre Dame Academy), made it a 1-1 game with 3:08 left until halftime and her second of the contest created a 2-2 tie with 2:04 remaining on the fourth quarter clock.

Sophomore Mia Trottie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Bishop Eustace HS) made four saves for Bentley and Riley O'Connor (Canton), also a sophomore, had seven for St. Michael's.

Bentley will wrap up the regular season Saturday evening at American International.
