Bentley Selected for NCAA Div. II Field Hockey Championships, Will Play at East Stroudsburg Saturday

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following a season that featured a 9-0 month of October, the Bentley University Falcons have been selected for the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships and will play a first round game at East Stroudsburg University Saturday.

Bentley, which will be making its first NCAA appearance since 2012, was seeded fifth in the six-team championship and East Stroudsburg (15-4) was the number four seed.

"I am so thrilled for this group, in particular the seniors," said Coach Jessica Spencer. "Their leadership has been the foundation for our success. This team has improved every single day and we are looking forward to our opportunity to compete for another Division II NCAA national championship."

It'll be the first meeting of the two programs in the NCAA tournament since 2001 when Bentley, playing on its home turf, defeated East Stroudsburg, 4-2, to win the national championship.

The other first round game has third-seeded West Chester hosting number six Adelphi University.

The final two rounds will be played November 19-21 in Millersville, Pa. with the Bentley-East Stroudsburg winner taking on top-seeded and undefeated Shippensburg University and the Adelphi-West Chester survivor facing second-seeded Assumption University.

Bentley will enter the tournament at 14-5 following a stroke-off loss to New Haven in the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals. The Falcons will be making their 14th appearance all-time in the NCAA Division II Championship and their first since 2012.
