Simione Earns 2nd Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second time in three weeks, Bentley University graduate student Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) has been named the Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

In the Falcons' 3-0 win at St. Michael's, Simione scored her fifth goal of the season and recorded her Division II-leading seventh defensive save. Against AIC in a 1-0 victory, she helped limit the Yellow Jackets to only two shots.

A third-team All-Northeast-10 honoree in 2019 and one of Bentley's captains for the second straight season, Simione has helped this year's team to a 14-4 overall record and nine straight wins heading into tonight's NE10 quarterfinal game against the University of New Haven.

Simione has been in 71 games during her career with 13 goals, 10 assists and 14 defensive saves.

Also recognized by the conference this week with selection to the Weekly Honor Roll were juniors Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham/Notre Dame Academy) and Madison Clark (Natick/Natick HS).

Bevilacqua had two goals during the 2-0 week and accounted for the game's only score in a 1-0 win over American International in the regular season finale. Her team-high tenth of the season came with 10:49 left in the third period on a third-chance opportunity against the Yellow Jackets. She also scored once in the Falcons' 3-0 victory at St. Michael's.

Clark posted a shutout with five saves in a 3-0 win at St. Michael's and played a scoreless first half in a 1-0 victory over American International. She recorded a total of six goals in 90 scoreless minutes during the week, lowering her goals against average to 0.83 in the process.

Bentley was ranked ninth in last week's Penn Monto NFHCA Division II national coaches poll and third in the NCAA Division II East Regional.
