4 Different Players Score as Bentley Doubles Up St. Michael’s, 4-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student and captain Sam Simione (Cheshire, Conn./ Cheshire HS) had both a goal and a defensive save, and three teammates also found the back of the net, as Bentley University doubled St. Michael's College, 4-2, in non-conference field hockey Sunday afternoon at home.

The win was the fourth in the last five games for the Falcons, who improved to 5-3 overall. St. Michael's, which led 1-0 after the first quarter after scoring with 0:47 on the clock, dropped to 3-6 on the season.

Two goals, approximately five minutes apart in the second quarter, produced a lead Bentley would not relinquish. Senior forward Kate Slowe (Medfield/Medfield HS) scored the equalizer with her shot tricking off the SMC goalkeeper and trickling into the cage.

Simione gave her team, driving the ball into the net following a penalty corner inserted by junior Bridget Coughlin (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Reg. HS).

It remained a 2-1 game until sophomore Abigail Hewes (Denmark, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) scored in the opening minute of the fourth. She brought the ball into the circle before sending it past the goalie for her first career goal.

Bentley's final goal, off the stick of freshman Lida Coco (Litchfield, Conn./Canterbury School) with 5:47 to play, made it a 4-1 game at the time. St. Michael's closed out the scoring with 2:25 remaining when Bridgie Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y.) scored for the sixth time this season.

Junior Madison Clark (Natick/Natick HS) made five saves for Bentley while earning her second win of the weekend. Freshman Riley O'Connor (Canton) was credited with eight saves for the Purple Knights.

Bentley finished with a 20-15 shot advantage, including 12-6 in the first half, and was awarded 15 penalty corners, four more than St. Michael's.

Bentley is on the road twice this week, Wednesday at Saint Anselm and Saturday at Adelphi.
