Meghan Talerman has dedicated her life to helping others.

As a star field hockey player for Barnstable High School and then Bentley University in Waltham, Talerman earned a reputation as a great teammate and a player everyone liked being around. Now, Talerman has brought those qualities into nursing, where she graduated this spring from Massachusetts General Hospital's Institute of Health Professions.

"Sports definitely helped teach me discipline, helped teach me teamwork," Talerman said. "Those invaluable life lessons that I learned on the field I continue to carry with me through everything else."

Talerman, a third-generation Barnstable graduate, comes from an athletic background. Both her parents played sports at Amherst College — her mother also played field hockey, and her father was a swimmer. Talerman's grandfather was a lacrosse star at the U.S. Naval Academy, and her cousin Hayden played football at Princeton.
