No. 2 Merrimack Uses 2 2nd-Half Goals to Best No. 7 Bentley, 3-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Second-half goals from senior Delaney Yule (Southbury, Conn.) and freshman Juliana Ohmen (Breman, Germany), both off penalty corners, were the difference as second-seeded Merrimack College defeated seventh-seeded Bentley University, 3-1, in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Championships Tuesday evening at Duane Stadium.

Bentley finishes the season at 11-8 while Merrimack, the fifth-ranked team in Division II with a 16-3 record, will host Stonehill College in the NE10 semifinals on Friday.

Yule broke a 1-1 tie with 23:44 left when she took a pass from senior Mary McNeil (Canton) and sent it into the cage from about 12 yards away.

The Warriors picked up insurance about seven-and-a-half minutes left with Ohmen driving the ball into the cage from about six yards.

Merrimack got on the board first with junior Lindsey Nolte (Canton) scoring her fifth of the year with 24:35 left in the first. Following a shot off the post, she corralled the rebound and send it into the goal.

Four-plus minutes later, Bentley junior Tess Anderson (Stow/Nashoba Reg. HS) scored the equalizer from in close. It was her 18th of the season, third most in the Northeast-10. Senior Mikayla Ullrich (Montclair, N.J./Montclair HS) was credited with the assist.

Junior Katharina Ohmen (Breman, Germany) made five saves to earn the win for Merrimack while Bentley freshman Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) had three for the Falcons.

Merrimack finished with a 12-7 shot advantage and was awarded nine of the contest's 11 penalty corners.
