Five Juniors Score as Bentley Stretches Winning Streak to 4, 5-0 over Mercy

WALTHAM, Mass. – It was quite an afternoon for the junior class as five different members of the Class of 2016 scored Sunday afternoon as the Bentley University Falcons extended their winning streak to four, 5-0 over visiting Mercy College in non-conference college field hockey.

The scoring began in the 13th minute when Leah Winer (Longmeadow/Longmeadow HS) sent the ball into the cage for the fourth time this season, off a centering pass from another junior, Becca Moore (Belmont/Belmont HS).

An unassisted goal from Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS), her third of 2014, made it 2-0 with 7:44 left until intermission.

Bentley added to its lead with three second-half goals, beginning with Sally Jamers (Mequon, Wisc./Univ. School of Milwaukee) netting her third with 24:22 to play.

Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) and Savannah Febesh (Carle Place, N.Y./Friends Academy) completed the scoring, each tallying their first of the season during the final nine minutes.

With Bentley outshooting the 0-9 Mavericks 32-1, sophomore Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./ Burlington HS) earned credit for her second shutout without having to make a save. Her counterpart from Mercy, Olivia Kelly (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded 14 stops.

Bentley, 5-3 overall, will resume Northeast-10 action next Saturday when it plays a noon game at nationally-ranked Stonehill College.
