No. 8 Merrimack Blanks Visiting Bentley, 4-0

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Freshman Rylee Hammond (Phillipston) and junior Katrina Squeri (Chelmsford) scored about 100 seconds apart midway through the first half to give Merrimack College a 2-0 lead and the Warriors went on to record a 4-0 victory over Bentley University in non-conference field hockey Tuesday night at Warrior Field.

It was the third loss of the season to a top ten-ranked team for the Falcons, now 1-3 overall. Merrimack, ranked eighth in Division II this week, pushed its record to 4-1.

Hammond staked her team to a lead after scoring off a pass from junior Sydney Bowker (Schenectady, N.Y.) at 16:01. Less than two minutes later, Squeri redirected a pass from senior Abbey Stacey (Sidney, Maine) into the cage.

Freshman Taylor Simpson (York, Maine) provided insurance in the second half, scoring with 15:52 left and again with 10:23 on the clock.

Bentley sophomore Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) made ten saves in her first career start while junior Madison Davis (San Jose, Calif.) had four saves en route to the shutout.

Merrimack nearly doubled the Falcons in shots, 21-11, and finished with a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Next up for the Falcons will be a home game against Southern New Hampshire under the Friday night lights.
