3 Bentley Field Hockey Players Receive All-NE-10 Honors; Maguire Named to 1st Team

Complete Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Beth Maguire (Medfield/Medfield HS) topped a list of three Bentley University field hockey players to earn All-Northeast-10 Conference honors as she was selected by the conference's coaches to the first team.

Junior defender Melissa Martorelli (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel HS) and freshman forward/midfielder Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS) represented Bentley on the All-Conference second team, and Talerman was also voted to the All-Rookie Team.

The trio has helped Bentley to a seven-game winning streak, entering this week's NE-10 playoffs, and an 11-6 overall record. The Falcons are ranked third in the NCAA Division II North Regional and moved into this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll at number nine.

Maguire is leading the Falcons in scoring for the second straight season, with nine goals, including four game-winners, and five assists for 23 points. Only two players in the conference have more game-winning goals, and she's tied for tenth in the NE-10 in both goals and points.

Maguire, a Falcon co-captain who came back strong this fall after being plagued by injury a year ago, has 26 goals and 11 assists for her career, with seven game-winners. She was voted Academic All-NE-10 in 2010 after amassing 11 goals and 27 points.

Martorelli, a first-year starter for the Falcons, is tied for the team-lead in assists (5) and also has one goal, which came on a penalty stroke earlier this month against Assumption. She's also been a leader of the Falcon defense, which has given up zero or one goal in six of the last seven games and is third in the NE-10 in fewest goals allowed.

Talerman has six goals and 13 points thus far in her rookie season. A starter in all 17 games, she has been credited with the game-winning goal twice, Sept. 4 against Saint Anselm and Oct. 6 at American International.

Bentley will face either UMass-Lowell or Stonehill Saturday at 11 am at Merrimack in the NE-10 playoff semifinals, with a berth in Sunday's championship game at stake.
