Dion Named to Capital One Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Nicole Dion (Lunenburg/Lunenburg HS), a junior forward on the Bentley University field hockey team, is one of 12 student-athletes named to the 2012 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1 Women's At-Large team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

All 12 will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration.  District 1 includes the Northeast-10 Conference, the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, and eligible sports in the women's at-large program include golf, hockey, swimming, tennis, lacrosse, skiing and gymnastics, as well as field hockey.

After having her sophomore season interrupted by injury, Dion came back strong last fall, earning second-team All-Northeast-10 honors. She scored ten goals for the second time in three years and finished 12th in the conference in scoring. The 2009 Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year finished her third collegiate season with 23 goals and six assists, averaging better than a point a game.

Dion has also excelled in the classroom with her 3.92 grade point average as an accounting major the second highest among the 12 All-District 1 selections. She was selected for the 2011 Academic All-Northeast-10 team and is a three-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad.

A five-time member of the President's List, Dion is involved in the Bentley Women's Leadership Institute and also serves as a tutor for the athletic department.
