Dion Hat Trick Lifts #10 Bentley to 5-0 Win at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Nicole Dion (Lunenburg/Lunenburg HS) registered her first career hat trick as she led Bentley University to a 5-0 win over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey at Assumption's Multi-Sport Stadium.

Dion staked the Falcons to a 1-0 lead when she scored at 14:26 of the first half. The final two goals came in the second half, less than two minutes apart. She found the back of the net with 26:04 left and did it again, for the team-leading eighth time this fall, with 24:12 remaining on the game clock.

Dion's first two goals were assisted by senior All-Conference forward Stephanie Sideris (Watertown/Watertown HS), who finished with a career-best three helpers.

Also scoring for the Falcons were junior Kaitlyn Marcinek (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS), with 4:55 left in the first half, and sophomore Brandy Asplundh (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Acad. of the New Church), with 1:50 remaining before intermission.

Statistically, Bentley controlled the game as much as it did the score, finishing with advantages of 25-3 in shots and 22-1 in penalty corners. Heather Philbrick (Kennebunk, Maine) had a busy game in net for the Greyhounds (1-11, 1-7 NE-10), making 17 saves.  Bentley junior Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), who combined on the shutout with classmate Kaitlyn Riley (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) had to make just one stop before exiting the contest in the 57th minute.

Bentley improved to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the Northeast-10, moving into a tie for fourth place in the conference. Three games remain in the regular season, beginning Tuesday at St. Michael's (3:30 pm).
