WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS) completed a breakaway just 24 seconds into the extra session to give Bentley University its second straight overtime win, this time by the count of 3-2 over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Bentley.

Lirange took a pass from senior Stephanie Sideris (Watertown/Watertown HS) and put it past AIC netminder Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) for the game-winner. The point was the fifth of the game for Sideris, who had staked the Falcons to an early lead with two goals in the first 14 minutes.

Bentley, tied for tenth in this week's Kookaburrra/NFHCA Division II coaches poll, improved to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the NE-10. The Falcons moved ahead of AIC in the conference standings to third place, with the Yellow Jackets sliding to 8-4 overall and 3-1 NE-10.

Sideris propelled Bentley to a quick 2-0 lead, netting her sixth goal of the season at 9:07 and her seventh less than five minutes later. Senior Lacey Cumming (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) provided the assist on the first score.

It remained a 2-0 game until junior Mackenzie Kewley (Rutland) scored for AIC just about 11 minutes into the second half. The equalizer came with 5:55 left in regulation, senior Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) putting the ball in the cage off an assist from junior Lisa Duckles (Netcong, N.J.).

Junior Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) made five saves en route to the win for the Falcons, and Steiner made four stops for AIC.

The Yellow Jackets had a slight edge in shots, 12-11, and Bentley had the upper hand in penalty corners, 7-5.

Bentley will complete its four-game homestand Wednesday night against Franklin Pierce University (7 pm).
