WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Jen Otis (Penacook, N.H.) scored a pair of second-half goals to help Merrimack College, the fifth-ranked team in this week's Kookaburra/NFHCA Division II national coaches poll, to a 5-1 win over host Bentley University in a rain-soaked Northeast-10 Conference field hockey contest Tuesday night.

The win was the 11th straight for the Warriors, who improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the NE-10. Bentley, tied for tenth in this week's national rankings, dropped to 4-6 overall and suffered their first loss in three conference games this fall.

Despite five early penalty corners by Bentley, the game remained scoreless until the final minute of the opening half. Merrimack sophomore Candace Waldie (North Andover) redirected a shot from senior Victoria DeLacey (Charlton) into the cage for a 1-0 lead.

Merrimack opened the game up by striking twice in the first 13 minutes of the second half, Otis at 41:55 and senior Sarah Salatto (Guilford, Conn.) less than six minutes later.

Bentley's only goal of the night was scored by senior Tori Bergantino (Waltham/Waltham HS) with just over 20 minutes left in the second. Following a save by Merrimack junior netminder Kerri Bergquist (Mashpee), she drove the rebound into the cage for her first tally of the yeasr.

Bergquist finished with three saves, and junior Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) made seven for Bentley.

Merrimack finished with a 19-8 advantage in shots and both clubs had eight penalty corners, although five of the Falcons came in the opening 12 minutes.

Bentley, in the midst of a four-game homestand, will be back on its home turf Thursday night to host defending national champion UMass-Lowell at 7 pm.
