Sideris Scores Twice as Bentley Blanks Assumption, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – All-Northeast-10 senior Stephanie Sideris (Watertown/Watertown HS) scored twice and junior Nicole Dion (Lunenburg/Lunenburg HS) netted the game's first goal a little more than three minutes into the second half as Bentley University topped Assumption College, 3-0, in non-conference field hockey at Bentley Tuesday night.

It was the second straight shutout victory for junior goalkeeper Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./ Pomperaug HS) and the Falcons, who improved to 3-4 overall on the year. Assumption was blanked for the fourth time in five games and dropped to 1-5.

All three goals came in the second half and all were off of rebounds following Assumption saves, two by sophomore goalie Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine) and one by junior defender Kathy Moffett (Lowell).

Dion knocked in the first at 3:13 of the second half and Sideris gave the Falcons some insurance when she scored twice in a three-minute span. The first came with 20:44 left and she tallied her fifth of the year with 18:09 left on the game clock.

Powell only needed to make one save en route to the shutout. Assumption made numerous trips into the Falcons' defensive circle, but managed to get off only three shots.  Bentley, on the other hand, had 21 shots and a 9-1 edge in penalty corners.

Bentley is back at home on Saturday with a 1 pm game against Adelphi University.
