Bentley Continues 3-Game Homestand Friday vs. Post

WALTHAM, Mass. – The longest homestand for Bentley University football in more than a quarter century will continue under the Friday night lights when the Falcons take on Post University. Kickoff is set for 6 pm and the game will be streamed live on www.NE10NOW.tv/bentleyfalcons.

Bentley, which has won 15 of its last 18 games overall and eight in a row at home, is coming off the first victory of the Alvin Reynolds era, 41-20 over Pace last Saturday in the first of three straight in home turf. That followed a 17-16 loss at West Chester in the season-opener.

Post, in its first season of Division II football after playing sprint in 2021, has dropped its first two games, 35-34 to Lock Haven University and 76-0 to now-Division I Stonehill College.

Defense played a key role in the Falcons' win over Pace. Bentley came up with two takeaways – a fumble recovery by 2021 Northeast-10 Defensive Lineman of the Year Cedie Dashiell II (Buena Park, Calif./Buena Park HS) and an interception by senior captain Jailen Branch (Randolph/Milton Academy) – and allowed only a 25 percent third-down conversion rate (3 of 12). Pace was limited to 70 net rushing yards (2.7 per attempt), was sacked twice and was blanked over the first 40 minutes.

Junior linebacker and captain Salvatore Lupoli Jr. (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS), the NE10 tackle leader, had 11, including two for losses, and now has 24 already this season. Dashiell II, who is tied for sixth among active Division II players in career sacks, and junior Joe Rivers (Lunenburg/Lunenburg HS) both have two sacks this season. Rivers also forced a fumble against the Setters.

The offense has been powered by Youngstown State transfer Mark Waid (Cortland, Ohio/Girard HS), who is number one in the NE10 in rushing yards after running for 137 yards against Pace. During his first two games as a Falcon, Waid has thrown for 288 yards and three touchdowns while also gaining 190 on the ground, third most nationally by a Division II QB.

His offensive weapons include seniors Nate Larkins (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn HS) and Noah Neville (Boston/Newton North HS). Larkins has rushed for 107 yards and two TDs, and Neville has caught six balls for 98 yards. Neville closing in on a couple milestones as he is nine receptions away from 100 and 64 receiving yards shy of 1,500.

The offensive line, which has only allowed one sack thus far, includes tackles Gavin Olsen (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset HS) and Mike Boutros (Worcester/Doherty Memorial HS). Olsen, a graduate transfer from Harvard, is 6-foot 9, 330 pounds while Boutros is the team's only freshman starter.

Graduate student Broghean McGovern leads the Post offense. Formerly a reserve at Bryant, the six-foot-five QB has completed 43 of 71 passes for 557 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for a team-best 47 yards. He was impressive in the Lock Haven game, throwing for 416 yards and five touchdowns (10, 60, 27, 21 and 46 yards).

Antonio Spencer did not play in the Stonehill game after hauling in seven passes for 147 yards and two TDs in the opener.

Post, in the first two contests, gave up seven sacks, turned the ball over five times and had two kicks blocked.

Bentley will also be under the home Friday night lights next week when it will launch the Northeast-10 portion of the schedule against defending champion University of New Haven. The Chargers downed the Falcons twice down in West Haven, Conn. last November, once to claim the NE10 title and the other in the NCAA Division II playoffs.

BENTLEY BRIEFS: Bentley junior placekicker Mason Campbell (Marco Island, Fla./Barron Collier HS) is second on the team in scoring with six extra points and three field goals for 15 points … 49 of the 74 players on the Post roster are freshmen … Bentley is 8-for-8 on red zone opportunities with five touchdowns and three field goals … against Pace, freshman Billy Osborn (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee HS) threw a 42-yard TD pass to sophomore Jack Ford (Medford/Lynnfield HS) on his first career play as a collegian. It was also Ford's first career reception.
