McCubrey, Brazicki Voted to CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University graduate students Cole McCubrey (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) and Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Park, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) have been voted to the 2021 CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America® football team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The announcement was made by CoSIDA Thursday afternoon.

McCubrey, a linebacker who distinguished himself during his only Bentley season, made the first team, and Brazicki, a first-teamer a year ago, was chosen for the second team.

They are the 87th and 88th Academic All-Americas in Bentley history, a total that ranks in the top 15 nationally in Division II.  Since the start of the 2015 season, Bentley football players have earned eight Academic All-America awards, including six first-team.

McCubrey spent only one season as a Falcon but certainly made his mark after transferring from UMass. He led the Northeast-10 in tackles (114) and earned numerous honors, including Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year, Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Joe Zabilski Award for defense, D2CCA All-Super Region 1, New England Football Writers Division II-III All-New England and first-team All-Northeast-10.

McCubrey, who graduated Cum Laude from UMass, is pursuing his Masters of Science in finance, the same discipline he earned his Bachelors in. He achieved a 3.87 grade point average as an undergrad and has a 3.7 at Bentley.

"Since Cole's arrival this summer, it became very clear that he was an elite performer on and off the field," said Bentley football coach Bill Kavanaugh. "Each day here, he has impressed everyone across campus with his performance and commitment to success."

Brazicki led Bentley in rushing for the fourth consecutive season, finishing with 724 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns. His career total of 2,276 yards ranks third on the program's all-time list.

Brazicki, a 2021 Bentley Magna Cum Laude graduate, earned a 3.68 undergraduate GPA while majoring in corporate finance and accounting, and has a 3.8 in grad school. He is working on an MBA, with a concentration in finance.

"Andrew has been the gold standard of performance in the classroom, on the field and in the weight room for five years," praised Kavanaugh. "He has culminated his career with Academic All-America recognition twice.  He is a remarkable person with an extremely bright future.

"Bentley University is lucky to have these two young men representing us," concluded Kavanaugh.

Bentley finished the season at 9-2 and made its first NCAA playoff appearance since 2004.
