McCubrey & Rivers Receive Weekly Honors from the Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University linebacker Cole McCubrey (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore defensive tackle Joe Rivers (Lunenburg/Lunenburg HS) has been tabbed as the NE10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced today.

In a 24-14 win over Franklin Pierce that kept the now ninth-ranked Falcons unbeaten, McCubrey was in on 15 tackles and also had two tackles for losses, one strip sack and another forced fumble. Both forced fumbles resulted in Bentley scoring drives, a field goal that made it 3-0 and a field goal that made it 10-0.

The graduate transfer from UMass is third in the conference in tackles with 80 and also has four forced fumbles and two interceptions. He's scored twice, once on a pick-six and once on a short pass reception.

Rivers, a six-foot-one 265-pounder, had a career-high eight tackles, including two strip sacks for 16 yards, and a pass break-up as Bentley extended its winning streak to 13. That came after having only five tackles during the season's first seven contests.

The Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included Bentley graduate student Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Park, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas HS). He rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries against Franklin Pierce with the TDs covering five and one yards. Brazicki also became only the eighth player in program history to amass 2,000 career rushing yards and moved to sixth on Bentley's all-time list.

This Saturday, first place in the Northeast-10 will be on the line as the Falcons visit the University of New Haven. Both teams are 6-0 in conference play and like Bentley, New Haven is also ranked in the AFCA Division II top 25.
